Denise Clausen Open House at Latimer Quilt & Textile Center

Denise Clausen at Latimer Quilt & Textile Center
Yesterday, I attended an open house at Latimer Quilt & Textile Center in Tillamook. Denise Clausen was the featured artist, and a new exhibit of her work is now on display, called The Language of Art. I had to go. Denise was there at my opening reception last year when I exhibited at Latimer, and I happen to love her work.

Denise does beautiful calligraphy on cloth, and her skillfully done inscriptions adorn many of the quilts in the gallery. The one at the center of the stage (top photo) was a group project with two other people, and Denise designed, lettered and stitched the center medallion, and collaborated with Phyllis Sherman and Sylvia Sullivan on the project.

She is also a fan of indigo, and whenever we see each other we end up talking about indigo.

The exhibit will be up over the next two months, so I hope you'll go check it out. Latimer Quilt & Textile Center is located at 2105 Wilson River Loop Road in Tillamook. For more information, click here.

  4. I think the diamond one is my favorite...but I'm a sucker for geometry. That's cool that she has a nitch for handwriting on quilts.

  5. Beautiful! I love the calligraphy on the quilts, and I especially like the wildlife themed quilt in the fourth image. Latimer is always a great place to stop on the way home from a day in Tillamook.

  6. That first and woods/to grandma's house quilts are particularly exquisite, but all these pieces are so amazing!
