Pre-orders are now available for "New York Beauty, Quilts from the Volckening Collection" soon to be released by Quiltmania in France. The coffee table book will have over 300 pages with 70 quilts made between 1850 and present day; all examples and variants of the complicated patchwork design best known as New York Beauty. This design appeared in American patchwork quilts in the middle of the 19th century, but it got the popular name in 1930, when Mountain Mist released a pattern with the name. But the name is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the history of this design. There were many changes in the design and its construction, and these changes were also signs of change in the continuum of quilt history. The middle of April should be here before I know it. All signed up!
