This month's guest blog for "Why Quilts Matter" is now up, and the topic is "Quilts in the Information Age". I talk a lot about our amazing Facebook group for "Quilts-Vintage and Antique" and tell the story of buying this incredible double-knit polyester wavy bricks quilt after seeing a picture of it on Facebook.
I've been blogging for "Why Quilts Matter" all year, and plan to continue as long as the guest blogger series continues. For those who are not familiar with "Why Quilts Matter" it is a nine part documentary series about quilts, history, art and politics. It has aired on hundreds of public broadcasting stations across the U.S., and is now accompanied by a printed discussion guide. I am simply thrilled to see all of this activity, since I've supported the series in a variety of ways.

ReplyDeleteI have lived what you wrote but with a different "collecting focus". Year 2000 had me on ebay enjoying, learning and buying Fiestaware Vintage. After two years my check book gave out and I stopped BUT I knew in my heart that I had seen 40 years of hunting garage sales, antique malls, etc. for "finds" all without having to get up at 7 a.m. Saturday mornings and hitting the road. I learned a lot and have a collection that I enjoy very much. Thank You information age!
You'll probably enjoy knowing that I have 25 years of collecting Harlequinware under my belt. It is the lighter weight sibling of Fiesta, and I found it at garage sales, flea markets, and antique shops. Got a whole cabinet full of it.
