Do you know the way to San Jose?

The New York Beauty quilts will be on display in San Jose next year
Most of us know the old Dionne Warwick classic, written by Burt Bacharach, "Do you know the way to San Jose?" We know the words well enough to sing along, "I've been away so long. I may go wrong and lose my way." I've passed through San Jose, ironically, on my way to Masters swimming competitions in Santa Clara and Palo Alto. All I ever got to see was swimming facilities and hotel rooms, maybe a fast food joint or two along the way.

I've never explored San Jose, but the allure of Warwick's song has always made me want to go there. "You can really breathe in San Jose. They've got a lot of space. There'll be a place where I can stay." I'm sure it's changed a lot since 1968, when the timeless song first hit the airwaves. When I finally get to visit San Jose, the setting will be an oasis of beauty, a quilt museum, with a 33-year history and stellar reputation for hosting some of the finest quilt exhibits in the world.

I'm talking about the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, and I'm happy to say I've been invited to exhibit quilts there next year. It'll be the New York Beauty quilts, and it will be a thrill to prepare for the exhibit.

That's about as much detail as I can share for now, but I'll be sure to post updates as we move forward with planning. If you've been reading along with my blog, you may have noticed I'm on kind of a wild ride - Quilters Newsletter, an award at Sisters, generation X quilts, etc. The cup runneth over. I've dreamed of reaching a bigger audience with quilts, and dared to dream big. Now, it looks like those dreams are starting to come true. "I've got lots of friends in San Jose. Do you know the way to San Jose?"

  2. A BIG congratulations!! I may just have to make a trip to San Jose to see it. I have been there, but like you didn't see much. Gotta love Dionne Warwick too... Although now I will have her classic song in my head all day running a loop! Wouldn't that be fantastic if what Kathie said happens too?

  4. LOOK at all the "teeth" in that second one!! WOWOW. And congrats to your invitation! You've sure ammassed a fabulous collection and it's marvelous that you share it with the public this way. Thank you for showing here in BLogland, too, since the museum displays are way too far away for me to visit. :)

  6. My oldest son wants to go to San Jose -- because that's where the Winchester Mystery House is. Hubby and I went on our honeymoon, but I'd love to see it again.

Don't know if I can get him to take a second look at the New York Beauty quilts, though. I was lucky enough to get him to the exhibit in Philomath. :-)
