What is this? Whose initials are these? And Other Willow Tree Quilt Details...

I was taking some more detail shots of the Willow Tree Quilt because I wanted to have a closer look at the oddly shaped, intertwined shapes at the bottom center. What are they? Root vegetables? Sprouting seedlings? There is a loss to the lower right, where the left-hand shape would taper down into a curved point, as it does with the right-hand shape, which tapers off into a point with a circle on the tip, on the lower left side.

Then, while I was looking at it, trying to figure out what those shapes could possibly be, I noticed some irregularities in the quilting design directly below. Letters. Initials! SCORE!!!

But whose initials are they? The letters look like a "B" or "E" and an "R" but I could be wrong. They're hard to read and done in a fancy script, like a monogram.

Here are some of the other detail pictures I took. Enjoy! And if you have any idea about the intertwined shapes or the initials, please leave a comment.

  1. If you're collecting votes, I definitely think it looks like "ER". Good eye finding that!!

  2. I read an E R too - I'm surer on the E looks like a standard big cursive E (well that was standard when I went into elementary)

  3. I agree with the E and R...but I have to tell you that I think this is the most beautiful quilt that I have ever seen. The tree by itself is stunning. Will you display it or do you store your collection? I have enjoyed your photos immensely. Thanks for sharing them.

    2. I concur with the "ER" initials. I thought I heard somebody whooping and hollering! I'm guessing that was you! :) :) :)

  4. I tried looking at the initials with my eyes unfocused and it sure looks like ER. The R is pretty clear, the first letter could be a B but.....

Gorgeous quilt. Thank you so much for sharing!

  5. These photos are incredible. One never knows how early schooling will pay off later in life! I would love to know about the stitching. Is it backstitched, running stitched or half back stitched? Are the stitches around the stuffed work different than the fill quilting? And as long as you're in the mood to post pictures, could we see a shot of the stuffing from the back?

  6. Root symbolizes the fundamental needs, values and principles upon which all life is built. Or are they two halves of hearts intertwined?

  8. Dear me, such visually arresting stitchery. After viewing handwork like this, it may be time to consider retiring the needle and thimble.

    1. I wouldn't have it! You must keep making quilts so I can continue buying them!! People who have your quilts aren't giving them up too easily. :)
