Star, polyester, unknown maker, Florida, c. 1975, 78" x 78" |
This patriotic polyester star quilt came from an eBay seller in Satsuma, Florida. It's a little wonky, and wasn't the easiest thing to photograph, but I still love it. This type of design is uncommon in antique and vintage quilts. The earliest comparable examples I've seen are the eight-pointed "Aunt Eliza's Star" quilts from the middle to late 19th century, but I do not see them often. This type of large, medallion star made of strips is rarely seen in any era. It may be a little challenging to display, but I think it will be worth the effort.

I love it Bill! Very unusual.
ReplyDeleteI really like the feeling of movement created by not closing the last red and blue stripes.
