Bicentennial quilt, cottons, Rebecca Thompson, Boaz, Kentucky, 66" x 94" |
This outstanding hand painted Bicentennial quilt just arrived on my doorstep, and it has quite a story. The seller, also the maker, Rebecca Thompson of Boaz, Kentucky painted the blocks with Artex paints and completed the top in 1976. Forty years later, she unearthed the top from a suitcase under her bed and finished it with hand quilting. Here are photos of some of the blocks.

ReplyDeleteThe hand quilting is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteShe really did a nice job. Most of the painted quilts I've seen look like kids did them. What a find.
ReplyDeleteThis is charmingly gorgeous, and that's an amazing story that it was a 40 year timeframe until it was finished!
ReplyDeleteIncredible work! I'm really impressed that these are handpainted.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!! Love it.
ReplyDeleteArtex paints were THE rage then. I remember my grandmother and great grandmother painting pillow cases! This is a wonderful quilt!
