Cross-Currents Study #3, 1995, by Andrea Balosky |
Earlier this summer, I was contacted by a person who had two of Andrea Balosky's quilts in storage, and wanted them to go to a good home. I guess my name came up in a google search, because I was offered the quilts. Of course, I wanted both of them, but had to wait until September to have the money to pay for them. Well, guess what? It's September!!

Cross-Currents Study #2, 1994, by Andrea Balosky |
Check's in the mail, and I'm looking forward to seeing these two quilts in person. Both are part of Andrea's book, "Transitions: Unlocking the Creative Quilter Within" - and they are two of her most dazzling quilts. One of the quilts is on the cover of the book.
They make a great pair because one is very monochromatic with pops of color, while the other is overloaded with color. Both are part of the same series, and both include single Broken Dish blocks set on point with striped sashing and Nine Patch cornerstones. It was fun to read about them in the book, but will be even more fun to see them in person. I will do another post when the quilts have arrived and I've taken pictures.
They are wonderful!

I agree, and I want everyone to know her work. She's one of those unsung visionaries.
DeleteOh, I'm very jealous! I have her first book and greatly admire her work. Also been trying to win a bid on AAQI to purchase one of her mini quilts, but so far unsuccessful. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAh, Jodi, I must apologize, for I have four of her AAQI quilts. Of course, I wanted all of them! These will be the first larger quilts that I've got from Andrea. I'm excited!
DeleteWOW!

Andrea loves hand quilting, so I think she'd really enjoy what you're doing. Her work is truly remarkable. When I first learned about her and her quilts, I was just flabbergasted. So innovative, and witty, and honest. Love it!
DeleteI recognized the first from the cover of the book. How exciting for you to get these quilts. Her work is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited about these two quilts. :)
DeleteHer book is very inspirational too. I re-read it every couple years and learn something new every time.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really great book. Not everyone knows about it, but they should. It was ahead of its time.
DeleteNearly 20 years later, theyʻve held up visually.
