"Woodland Chromatics" in McCall's Quilting

Libby Lehman's 1984 "Woodland Chromatics" quilt, now part of my collection, is in the latest issue of McCall's Quilting magazine. A friend who works for the magazine saw my photo of the quilt on Facebook and asked if they could publish it. Of course, I said yes. 

The photo accopmanies news about the benefit auction for Libby Lehman, a living legend in the quilt community who had a brain aneurysm and stroke a few years ago.The auction included "Woodland Chromatics" and other masterpiece quilts spanning her career.

I am grateful for opportunities to publish photos of quilts from my collection, and I am also prepared. Every time a new quilt arrives, I photograph it, and the photos are good enough for print work. In a nutshell, it's a big reason why I get as much press as I do. McCall's Quilting is a bimonthly magazine brimming with great quilts, patterns, news, and lots of ideas for quiltmakers. celebrating independence

Happy Independence Day! It's been a wild ride, but there's not much about it I would change. I always enjoyed being in the driver's seat.

Coming soon: two Hawaiian scrap patchwork spreads

My friend Marjorie Childress told me about this Hawaiian scrap patchwork spread on eBay. It is 57" x 77" and is coming from a seller in Honolulu.

Made mostly of multicolor strips, there's a large patch of red floral fabric in one corner.

The edges are finished but there is no backing or batting. Basically, it's a bedspread.

While I was poking around, I found another gem. This one is coming from an eBay seller in Kailua Kona, and is finished the same way-- edge finished with no backing or batting.

And it's bright! I love these hot-colored patchwork spreads made of dayglo fabrics.

This one is 50" x 58" but the colors make a big statement. I think the colors are probably closer to the first photo, with the quilt draped over the bench. It's not always easy to photograph DayGlo.

Throwback Thursday: This Week's Playlist

Oldies week, in more ways than one. Old quilts and favorite old songs. Thank goodness for music! I have been at the computer editing photos...photos of old quilts, of course! Here's what I've been listening to this week.

Antique Alley Sales Heating Up

Sales are heating up toward the end of my fourth month as a dealer at Antique Alley in Portland. I stopped by yesterday, and the staff greeted me with a handful of receipts.

The last time I was at the shop, I moved things around in the booth and case. There's so much stuff at Antique Alley, it's a little overwhelming at times, so they recommend shuffling inventory. I also pulled a few quilts from the booth to allow other items to be more visible.

Soon I will go back with more new items, some glassware for the case and of course more quilts.

Antique Alley is located in the lower level of the 42nd Street Station, 2000 NE 42nd Avenue in the Hollywood District of Portland.
