Clark County Quilters Show

The Clark County Quilters Show is on now through Saturday, and it's another great show. Here are a few of the quilts that turned my head.

reversible Hawaiian patchwork spread

Ruby Lane is one of those sites I don't visit often enough. I'm pretty sure I hadn't bought anything through the site before. When I received a note from Pepper Cory alerting me to this lot, it was a no-brainer. 

This Hawaiian patchwork spread has no batting or quilting. It is 52" x 79" and reversible, with one large printed panel as the backing and a wide, orange binding.

The top looks like 1960s or 70s fabric, and the back looks a lot newer, possibly 1990s or later. The print has Asian characters, looks like Chinese. I'm sure someone will know what it says. 😊

Binding is so wide it almost looks like a border. The four-pointed star pattern has many names, but most intriguing to me is how the block creates a secondary pattern. A winner. I'll have to check in at Ruby Lane more often.

millennium patriotic wholecloth comforter

This patriotic wholecloth comforter was made sometime around the turn of the 21st century. I posted a photo of it on Facebook, and a friend who owned a quilt shop remembers the panel print from the late 1990s, when off-white and tan-aged backgrounds were becoming popular.

When I saw it, the colors didn't seem quite right for the Bicentennial. So, it was fun to receive a comment right away confirming my thought that the print was from the 1990s. The comforter is tied, it is 80" x 92" and it came from a Goodwill in North Carolina through the Goodwill auction site. It can't even be called barely vintage, but the patriotic theme makes it an instant classic.

1970s polyester quilt from Michigan, 84" x 100"

This awesome 1970s polyester quilt came from a Goodwill in Michigan. I found it through the Goodwill auction site, and it was an incredible bargain. The thing is huge, too -- 84" x 100" -- good for a big bed or a big wall!

The background fabric is a ribbed red and white stripe, but it looks pink from a distance. The binding is made of the same "pink" fabric.

The ties are all made with the same light pink yarn, and they seem to playfully switch directions by row.

The backing is pink, but it is not the same fabric in the top and binding. It is a lighter pink, pre-quilted piece. It's not too uncommon to see a pre-quilted piece used as a quilt backing in the 1970s.

I love how the half-square triangle blocks and quarter-square or "Broken Dish" blocks are placed. The whole composition is playful and full of energy. A winner!

Today at Antique Alley PDX

Antique Alley opens at noon today. It will be my first full day in booth C-1. Yesterday was set-up day, and everything went well. There was more than enough stuff to go in the booth, and at the end of the day it looked good. I am also keeping my display case, F-3.

The case is good for the smaller items and breakables, things that require light handling. The booth is for larger things and items people will want to handle while browsing, such as quilts. I had some quilts in the case but pulled them out and put them in the booth. Now shoppers can really see and feel them.

It's not just quilts. There are other types of textiles, wooden items and wall art. All glassware and pottery is in the display case, with other tchotchkes.

Quick note about my merchandise at Antique Alley: everything you see is for in-store purchase only. If you're interested in buying things but can't get to the shop, do not worry. I will soon be selling select items through eBay and Etsy.

I love the location of the booth. C-1 is steps away from the check-out area, and there is always staff available close by. There are 100 vendors with all kinds of curiosities, antique, vintage and new collectible items.

I've got lots of quilts, blankets and other textiles in the booth. The red and white quilt top already sold. Good thing I have plenty of others to put in its place. Priced to sell!

Most of the items are within clear view, but there are also places for the people who like to dig a little. Look under the table and in the other nooks and crannies to discover the hidden gems. Come visit, do a little shopping, and make me need to refill the booth and case often!

"after"

Yesterday I moved in to booth C-1 at Antique Alley. The booth is full, and open for business starting today, Sunday, from noon to 4pm. If you missed yesterday's blog, there was a view of the "before" - just after the previous tenant moved out.

Thank you to Trav B. for the assistance, and to the staff of Antique Alley for always being helpful. Here's a picture of my booth at Antique Alley. The previous tenant has vacated, and today is moving day! It'll probably take a couple carloads to fill up the booth, and I'll have a helper as long as I need. First load is furniture for the display. Second load will be all the other goodies. So, if you're thinking of stopping by to check out the merchandise, after lunch would probably be best. If you're enjoying the view from afar, stay tuned for the "after" photo.

Booth C-1 (see one) is where I will be. If you C-1, you should buy it.
