Throwback Thursday: Earlier This Year

QuiltCon 2015, Austin, Texas
February 2015: It seems like ages ago, I was in Austin, Texas for QuiltCon, debuting my "Modern Materials, Quilts of the 1970s" collection.

"I believe this quilt is from Hawaii," said me, during my tours at QuiltCon.
At QuiltCon I gave tours of the special exhibits in the mornings, and one of the quilts I talked about in my special exhibit was a quilt I found in Oregon-- but I believed it was from Hawaii. Around the same time, I was beginning to learn about the undocumented tradition of scrap quilts in Hawaii. Less than a year later, I am preparing to exhibit them.

Salon Pour l'Amour du Fil 2015, Nantes, France - 50 of my quilts on display
QuiltCon was only the beginning of a memorable year. Since then, my first book came out and I showed collections of quilts in four different venues as far away as France. In 2015, quilts appeared in books, magazines, and I finished work on my second book, due to be released in 2016. I am looking forward to the new year, including the next QuiltCon in Pasadena. It's just around the corner. Hope to see you there!

Giving Tuesday - Giveaway!

It's "Giving Tuesday" and I'm ready. Yesterday, I announced the release of the catalogue for my upcoming exhibition, "Kalakoa, Discovering the Hawaiian Scrap Quilt" -- and today, I'm giving away a copy. Just leave a comment, one comment per person please. Tomorrow I will announce the winner.

This catalogue and exhibition reveal an undocumented tradition of quilts, which look nothing like the quilts most people recognize as Hawaiian. There is no applique or echo quilting involved, but the connection with Hawaiian history and industry is clearly evident. The 40-page, full-color catalogue is available in softcover. For more information, click here.

Happy Cyber Monday! I am pleased to announce the publication of the catalogue for my January/February exhibition at Latimer Quilt & Textile Center. The catalogue is now available, and it is something so new you will not find it in any history book.

"Kalakoa, Discovering the Hawaiian Scrap Quilt" introduces an eye-opening tradition of scrap quilts in Hawaii. If you thought all Hawaiian quilts were botanical applique and flag quilts, prepare to have your mind blown. To preview or order, click here.

Vive la France!

I was in Paris in April. It was beautiful. These are a few of my favorite things.

Mom liked the omelette at Laduree

Cheers! It was nice to see my friend from high school
