Happy New Year! To celebrate 2016, I am happy to announce the randomly drawn winner of my giveaway. But first, I want to tell you a little bit about the prize. It is a copy of my book, "New York Beauty, Quilts from the Volckening Collection" published last year, 2015, by Quiltmania in France.
The 312-page, bilingual coffee table book includes images and information about 70 quilts from my collection, all "New York Beauty" and related designs made between 1850 and 2014. These quilts were collected from 1989 to 2014, and they illustrate the history of the complex patchwork motif. Shelly Zegart wrote the Foreword, and I wrote the Introduction and English text. I also did all the photography.
In a lot of ways, the book represents a culminating experience, memorializing a 25-year period of collecting. I searched, and here's what I found. However, I am not presenting my point of view. The book is about what the quilts have to say, the things they communicte to us today. When I realized how much the quilts said, and began understanding what they were not saying, I was ready to write the book.
Thank you, readers, and special thanks to everyone who left comments on yesterday's blog post. It was wonderful to have so many positive thoughts to wrap up a great year and start a new one. How happy I am to begin 2016 by giving away a copy of my book. It was a labor of love, and I think it's a keeper. And so, it is time to announce the winner. Congratulations, Chawne Kimber of Completely Cauchy!
