Small Wonders Challenge Winners

"Tango Garden" 2012, by Jean Wells Keenan

The Small Wonders Challenge is a relatively new part of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. It's been going on for a couple years now, and seems pretty popular. This year, there were at least 58 entries - that's how many there were on the Facebook page - although there may have been a few others.

There was a reception at the end of May, and winners of five out of six awards were announced. Best Use of Color went to "Tango Garden" by Jean Wells Keenan, owner of the Stitchin' Post and inductee in the Quilter's Hall of Fame. The quilts went up for sale just this past week, and I'm buying this quilt. I've wanted to own one of Jean's quilts ever since I met her a few years ago, and I'm just thrilled about this one!

Here are the other winners announced at the reception.

Best Interpretation of Show Theme:
"Little Village" 2012 by Bev King
Best Use of Michael Miller Challenge Fabric:
"The Red Door" 2012 by Kristin Shields
Best Contemporary/Art Quilt & Judges Choice
"Moonlit Trees" 2012, by Betty Gientke
Following the announcement of the five award winners at the reception in Sisters, online voting was opened for "Viewer's Choice" and that's the award I've won for my "House of Wonky" quilt. I blogged about this nice surprise here. Mom still has no idea. :D

Viewer's Choice: "House of Wonky" 2012 by ME!! :)
I'm looking forward to seeing all of the quilts from the Small Wonders Challenge next weekend in Sisters. All of the quilts in this challenge are being offered for sale, and proceeds will benefit the Sisters Park & Recreation District. The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is celebrating its 37th year. The one-day show will be held in Sisters, Oregon next Saturday, July 14th. For more information, click here.
