Tim Latimer Quilts

Time-Span quilt- Fans set in blocks similar to the traditional NY Beauty set
If you have not heard of Tim Latimer, you may need to check and see if you're living under a rock. This man, who is around my age and lives in Lansing, Michigan, is taking the quilting world by storm with his jaw-dropping hand quilting, his ability to take apart and reconstruct tops, and sheer speed. If his name is starting to ring a bell, Tim is the guy who won the Best Hand Workmanship Award at the AQS Grand Rapids show last year for his jaw-dropping Tree of Life wholecloth quilt.

I have admired Tim's work ever since I first saw it, and even bought one of his quilts made for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. That was a fun piece because it was made of leftover parts from a top he reconstructed and hand quilted.

The Fans variant is a time-span quilt. The fan pieces were likely made in the 30s, and Tim finished the quilt by masterfully adding sashing made of reproduction fabrics, and hand quilting the whole thing. Only an expert could really tell what he did, and he did it in like two days! Well, maybe three...

Tim started with these fans - wow!

As a bonus, Tim included the small quilt made from leftover pieces, all hand quilted!! The quilt appeared in an article in Quilters Newsletter Magazine.

If you have not visited Tim's web site and blog, stop everything and go now: http://timquilts.com. He also has quilts for sale through Etsy, so after you check out his web site, go to Etsy and buy a quilt- https://www.etsy.com/shop/timquilts. One of the quilts I saw there earlier in the week has already disappeared from the site, and most likely sold. That should tell you something. Now is a great time to invest in a Tim Latimer quilt.

    1. I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to work with Tim. It's something I have been wanting to do for a long time. If you saw his blog today, he will also be hand quilting a NY Beauty variant top from the 1960s (possibly 70s). There is another top after that, but it may need a little more work since it's kind of tented in the middle, but it's from Paducah, so it's worth it to have that one finished too.
