a different collection

My quilt book collection is much larger than my quilt collection. Don't ask how many books I have. I lost count. But the bookshelves are silently crying for mercy under all the weight. This shelf is my collection of "Uncoverings" journals of the American Quilt Study Group. The organization has published research papers in its "Uncoverings" journal annually since 1980. Only a few yearly editions left, and I will be up to date.

What are your favorite quilt books? Post a comment!

  1. Oh how I adore my collection of quilt books. As for my favorite, probably my most recently purchased one. I only keep the ones I love.

  2. My quilt books shelves groan too, not only for what's in them but now there are stacks on top too. More books come out every day that I just have to read, or so it seems.

My favorite quilt books? That's tough! "Calico & Chintz" is one because the photos are gorgeous! "Wearable Prints" is another...I'll be reading it forever, it's hefty and chock full of information. Those are my favorites today. Ask me tomorrow and you might get a completely different answer!

  3. The historical ones....the state ones come to mind, but other history is good too. Would love to have Calico & Chintz!!! trade off fabric or "other" quilt related things... as life gets tighter and tighter it is hard to choose. I have some uncoverings from 15 years ago. Too, I like new trends and bright.... but not new "pattern" books, they do not hold my interest for long. Never did understand the Art Institute as kid ---- pictures. But as an adult I enjoy looking at the pictures in my quilt books......some every night..... does that mean I am all grown up? LOL

  7. I have an obscene number of quilt books, quickly approaching 4 digits. There's a wonderful app for Android called Book Catalogue that lets you scan the bar codes to create a database of the books (can also input via web search or manually). I picked up another box of books yesterday, a seller at the flea market collects them for me and sells me a file box full for $20 (38 books in yesterday's collection). Always new gems in those boxes. Duplicates go to my cousin. I have too many favorites, but I really like the historical ones like "Wisconsin Quilts: Stories in the Stitches."

    1. Julie, it is so great to hear from you and I love knowing you have an enormous quilt book collection. There are few words to express how wonderful it has been for me to go down this path. Feeling the love! xoxo-Bill
