August 17th is Black Cat Appreciation Day, according to "For the Love of Black Cats" Black Cat Appreciation Page on Facebook. Black cats in the USA are often put to sleep and the least adoptable. They are put to sleep at a rate of nearly five times more than other fur colors.
Hard for me to imagine. My cat Lulu is black, and the cat before her, Little Boo was also black. When I went to the Cat Adoption Team to "browse" four days after Little Boo was gone, I came home with Lulu. Couldn't be happier. She's an awesome cat! And a great friend. I certainly do appreciate black cats!!
Here are some pictures of Lulu. Enjoy!
Snowflake thinks that black cat appreciation day is a very good day, and I should feed her again in honor of her being black.
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to get good photos of her, she's always a black blob with piercing eyes. I admire your ability to get great photos of Lulu.
I could look at pictures of Lulu every day!!!
ReplyDeleteLulu loves camera, she poses like a pro.

A day just for YOU! and for Lulu as well. I know you enjoyed a few new snaps for us as well.
ReplyDeleteWho knew there was a holiday. I have a black cat - long haired boy named Pingo. He is a good cat but very talkative and begs for food constantly...he thinks because our dog gets food, he should too. ugh.
ReplyDeleteLuLu is well loved.
Both of my cats have been black and were just the best. The wild cat in the barn is black also. Love the posts on Lulu.
ReplyDeleteI am from the Netherlands and have never heard of such thing as cats putting to sleep because they are black...awful! We have 3 cats and one of them, Missy is just as black as your Lulu. I have had cats all my life and some of the sweetest were black ones. They are usually very friendly and lovable to the people they live with but they also seem to be a bit more jealous than others. Lulu looks like a fun cat!
ReplyDeleteLulu is the cutest. Black cats get a lot of bad wrap in the states for being bad luck, but I owned one when I was younger... my first cat! She was insane and violent, but that's another story. I still adore black cats. Never knew about the holiday so thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am from Germany and I also have a black cat. His name is Mohrle and I love him very very much.
ReplyDeleteI've also had (or been owned by) several black cats... Mable and Spade were so opposite in their personalities! Mable was affectionate, quiet and loving - Spade was loud, bossy and loved to attack my ankles! Your pics are awesome - it is very hard to snap good pics of black animals!
