First, the eye report. Still a bit sore, but clearing up. I visited with a doctor vis Skype, and got some antibacterial drops, which seem to be working. Laying low through the weekend, but this eye-dazzling quilt arrived earlier in the week, and it was truly a sight for sore eyes. I just had to share it.
It is an 1870s foundation-pieced Log Cabin, Courthouse Steps variation, and it's full of great period fabrics. I first saw it when an alert popped up on the Facebook page for Quilts- Vintage and Antique.
Trish Failla of Vintage Blessings in Star, Idaho, was selling the top, and since it's so special, she gave first dibs to the group. I appreciated that. It was listed on eBay, and I snapped it up while everyone else was still ooohing and ahhing on Facebook. Carpe Diem!
It's rich! There is some fading, water stains, dye migration, and a few splits along the edge, but I'm thinking this top might be a good candidate for custom hand finishing in the style of the period. It would be worth it to stabilize the edges and make it a little flatter for display. Most of the quilts I have from the period are New York Beauties, so it's especially nice to have such a wonderful Log Cabin. Thank you, Trish!
