"Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust." I picked up Boo's ashes today, and there was a surprise with the box. Someone made an ornament with her paw prints and her name. How did they know? On our last day together, I wanted so badly to make paw prints using an ink pad. But at that stage of the game, I didn't want to bother her anymore, so I didn't. I was very touched by the gift.
Since I've never received the ashes of a pet before, I wasn't exactly sure what to do with the box. I'd thought about burying it, but even in the warmer months, it's hard to dig through the clay in my yard. I don't mind the idea of holding on to it, so I just put it up on the mantle for now.
What a sweet gesture. So sorry for the loss of your sweet friend, Boo.
ReplyDeleteThe aunt and uncle of one of my quilting friends runs a funeral home in our area. One day when we were running errands and visited their business, I spotted a lovely inlaid box (urn) they had on display as an example. It looked perfect for our first dog's ashes, and felt like exactly what I'd been waiting to find. It will be buried with us (whoever goes first?) when we die, but for now it's on an oak bookcase with a framed picture of Samantha next to it.
ReplyDeleteAhh what a nice way to always be able to have her footprints! I'm sure you miss her so much. Your place is just too quiet now.
ReplyDeleteThe footprints are just wonderful! Boo is purring...
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your Boo... I sooo understand, being a cat owner myself. Your Boo looks like my dearly departed Beanie. BIG HUGS!!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh nuts. They are such sweet personalities in our lives...you'll always be glad for the photos...and the paw prints are great...xo
ReplyDeleteI have my cats ashes in my sewing room, will have current pets creamated when it's their time as well. How kind of someone to give you the paw prints, that's the mark they leave on our hearts.
ReplyDeleteAngels making paw prints!
ReplyDeleteI am beaming over this gigantic thoughful gesture. Wow.
I am so sorry for the loss of your Boo. I just lost my Beansie III kitty too. Every Beansie kitty I have had has had some dreadful illness - the first two had bad hearts and both died very suddenly with massive heart attacks. This Beansie lost his ability to stand up right and kept falling over. He also threw up a lot, so it was time for him to go to the Rainbow Bridge with our other pets who are waiting for us there. I am glad you got the other kitty though. It seems like that kitty will be good with you in time. I have one like that; he had been ferrel and he wanted to be inside for sure, but didn't want to come out because of my other animals. With him, it took nearly a year before he joined the family mostly. Today he still stand-offish, but he comes whenever he thinks he can have me all to himself. What a funny guy. He is beautiful - a tiger cat with the most wonderful markings. Anyway, I am so thankful that someone did such a nice thing for you with the ornament. Peace and many blessings always, Anne P.S. I always enjoy your posts so much when I see them.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really sweet & thoughtful touch. What a treasure.
