New York Beauty, c. 1890, from the Phyllis George collection |
The Quilt Complex has done it again! Julie and Jean always have such wonderful things, and just before Christmas they had a "
New York Beauty" quilt that was formerly part of the Phyllis George collection, from her book, "Living With Quilts: 50 Great American Quilts" published in 1998. Here are some pictures. Images courtesy of
The Quilt Complex.
The quilting on that one is quite impressive. I can see why you wanted it. Did Phyllis liquidate her collection?
ReplyDeleteI think she did. Apparently a lot of her things were in a warehouse for a while, in storage. This one had passed through the hands of Shelly Zegart at one point. There was an old label on the back.
ReplyDeleteI heard Phyllis George speak at a quilt show. She told how she got into collecting quilts. An interesting story.
ReplyDeleteReally? What did she say?
ReplyDelete(envious)
This quilt is fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sensational quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe quilting alone is amazing on this quit. Beautiful. I found an unusual New York Beauty variation at http://quiltsmith--australia.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteYou will have to scroll down a little but the color combination is worth the effort. Enjoy.
It just dawned on me today...I own a quilt that MIss America once owned! How cool is that?
