Hi Kate, I believe the browns were originally reddish brown like that seen in the one in the book. Both samples seem to have the same reaction to moisture in the brown/red fabric - the dye appears to bleed wherever there is evidence of exposure to moisture, such as a water spot.
That is some out of this world quilting. Absolutely luscious.

ReplyDeleteBill. Gorgeous quilt. Do you or the appraisers believe the quilt is it's original colour, or would it have originally been red/green like it's cousin?
